Glossop Creates champions creativity across the Glossop valley – from visual art and music to food, storytelling, and everyday acts of making. We support artists, communities and organisations to bring creative projects to life and celebrate the culture of our town and its surroundings.
Wander is an ongoing project exploring creativity through walking – inviting people to move through the landscape more slowly, with curiosity and care. Each Wander offers a different way of experiencing Glossop: through photography, poetry, local history, or the sensory richness of the natural world.
This postcard features Looking Towards Kinder, a photograph selected by poet and artist Michael J. Howard, from his walk Following in the Footsteps of Ludwig Wittgenstein. Michael’s walk leads out across Chunal Moor, echoing the route once walked by the philosopher in 1908, when he lived and worked nearby.
The image captures the wide open view towards Kinder Scout, framed by moorland and sky – a place of quiet thought, open questions, and philosophical flight. For Michael, it’s a landscape for reflecting, breathing, and paying attention to the space between ideas.
